Aussie Rock Legend Jimmy Barnes to Host mcm’s National Radio Program Planet Rock®
26 Oct 2007
Broadcast via the Triple M Network and over 35 additional radio stations from the weekend of November 3-4, Jimmy Barnes will drive this 3 hour program – playing songs from his very own music collection and sharing some of the great stories behind the tracks.
mcm entertainment is delighted to confirm Jimmy Barnes as the new host of Planet Rock when it launches nationally on the weekend of November 3-4.
For old and new generations alike, Jimmy Barnes epitomises Australian rock and roll. As lead singer of the legendary Cold Chisel then as a solo artist, Jimmy has won huge numbers of fans through his extraordinary vocal skill, no bullshit attitude and warmth of spirit.
On the eve of the release of his first album of original material in seven years Out In The Blue on November 24, Jimmy’s extraordinary love and knowledge of music will be given full rein when, for the first time in his career, Jimmy sits behind the mike, as host of Planet Rock.
“It’s an honour to have Jimmy sitting in the driver’s seat and we’re delighted to be a part of this exciting new phase in his career,” said Tony McGinn, CEO of mcm entertainment.
“I am really excited to be taking the reigns of the new look Planet Rock and to be working with mcm entertainment. The new format of the show is going to be great fun. It’s all about the music for me, so I can promise it will be full of a great mix of old and new with a few personal stories thrown in,” said the new Host of Planet Rock, Jimmy Barnes.
Planet Rock (previously known as Planet Rock EvolutionTM) is all about the music - a weekly celebration of the songs and personalities that have driven popular music over the last four decades. The new format, now extended from 2 to 3 hours, will provide national listeners with an insight into the history of music, the stories behind the great songs from the artists themselves, as well as personal anecdotes from Jimmy.
To link an eclectic blend of music revolving around a central idea, Planet Rock will use broad weekly themes such as ‘punk’ and ‘weather’, with tracks in the ‘weather’ show including AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, Weather With You by Crowded House and Hurricane by Bob Dylan. The new program promises to deliver a compelling music program each week, as Jimmy hand-picks some of his favourite songs and talks about them like never before.
The all new Planet Rock will be broadcast on weekends on 43 stations nationally. Fully produced by mcm entertainment, the show will also utilise the vast resources of mcm’s music and interview library.
