mcm media’s DEN reaches 100 million streams for online video and audio streaming

5 Nov 2009

Just three months after its official Australian launch, mcm media’s Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) has proven its reach and audience appeal, delivering over five million streams per month and more than 100 million streams since the technology was first tested. The streams have been delivered through syndicated partner sites including News.com.au, The Daily Telegraph, APN’s regional sites and Yahoo!7 Music, as well as mcm media’s own Take 40, The Hot Hits and movideo sites.

Additional functionality for the DEN was also announced today, including jukebox functionality and auto-linking, both of which will make DEN even more appealing for partner sites as they seek to increase consumer engagement. Further features including demographic targeting are expected to be released shortly by DEN, providing advertisers with even greater ability to dynamically reach their target audience.

According to Karim Messih, General Manager Marketing at Video Ezy, the DEN has already proven itself to be an effective video advertising solution for their brand.

“In our industry the ability to showcase trailers for the latest DVD releases in mass premium entertainment environments, cost effectively, is key. That is exactly what the DEN offers us. The DEN audience is seeking entertainment and that is exactly the audience we want to be talking too.”

According to Simon Joyce, CEO of mcm media, the improved functionality of the DEN media player is all about ensuring consumers have more access points to the technology and as a result, a more engaging music experience.

“Online publishers are looking for avenues to ensure their consumers remain interested in and involved in their sites for longer and the DEN is proving to be one of the most effective tools to support this. The enhancements we have announced today and those that will shortly follow will ensure that publishers, advertisers, music labels and consumers alike continue to benefit.”

DEN’s new auto-linking functionality enables publishers using the DEN media player to scan the contents of their web pages looking for keywords such as an artist name or song title. Once found the DEN highlights the keywords within the news stories and links to the media player or gallery delivering the audio and video tracks that have been ingested relevant to the keyword. For example if the name “Katy Perry” is found within the page it would be linked to the DEN media player with a playlist of her tracks. This brings greater depth to the editorial and positions the consumer just one click away from relevant, high quality music videos.

The juke box functionality planned for the DEN will allow users to search music from the full DEN library regardless of whether they are viewing DEN from an mcm or syndicated site. As a result, consumers will be able to go beyond the current playlist model to select from the more than 7,000 already ingested music videos and audio tracks, delivering them an even better music experience and encouraging them to stay on the site longer.

The new auto-linking technology is currently active at take40.com and thehothits.com and will be rolled out to other DEN partner sites over the coming months, with the juke box functionality and demographic targeting to follow.

Ends.
