mcm media and ARN present drive show with a difference in 2009 - Legendary duo Jono and Dano reunite for new radio show
9 Dec 2008
The eighties power couple are back! After more than two decades apart, the popular duo of Jonathan ‘Jono’ Coleman and Ian ‘Dano’ Rogerson are reuniting to inject a fresh sound into drive time radio.
In January 2009, Australia’s much loved mates, Jono and Dano, will take over the airwaves once again to entertain listeners with a major new drive show, ‘The Jono & Dano Show’, on-air five days a week, 4pm – 7pm.
Set to become one of Australia’s biggest drive-time radio shows in terms of reach, ‘The Jono & Dano Show’ will air on WS-FM (Sydney), GOLD 104 (Melbourne) and 4KQ (Brisbane), as well as on an extensive regional network of stations across Australia.
Thanks to the collaboration between mcm media, the producers of the show, and the Australian Radio Network (ARN), ‘The Jono & Dano Show’ will combine the proven formula of the duo’s radio partnership with a fresh dose of relatable stories, good times and great classic hits.
Simon Joyce, CEO of mcm media, says the collaboration with ARN and launch of the show is big news for drive-time radio and will open up fresh opportunities for advertisers.
“It’s terrific to be working alongside our friends at ARN on yet another fantastic national radio program,” he said.
“We’re all very excited about this new offering for drive time radio and providing our advertisers with a fresh opportunity to tap into a strong brand with national reach, via coverage across both metro and regional markets. Jono and Dano are well established, and we know the new show will make the battle of drive time radio quite extraordinary.”
ARN's Group Director of Sales, Paul Parker said partnering with mcm media on the project was a strategic decision for the Network.
"Jono and Dano are part of our programming and sales evolution in 2009. Our market research singled the duo out as a perfect fit for the Classic Hits brand. It gives our advertisers a great opportunity to engage with an extremely loyal audience through a new three hour format,” he said.
Jono and Dano’s partnership goes back more than twenty years and includes a significant track record of successful radio and television shows, such as their high rating night show on Triple M and ‘Saturday Morning Live’ on the Seven Network.
Sadly when the then Federal Government outlawed tax free lunches, the boys went their separate ways to pursue individual projects.
In the early nineties, Jono relocated to London to work on several highly successful radio projects whilst Dano joined forces with the ABC presenting a variety of programs for Triple J, 702 ABC Radio Sydney and hosting Live at the Basement on ABC 1.
With Jono having now returned to the land down under, the boys have discovered they have even more experiences to share with Australia, including having families, taking on mortgages… and living to tell the tale.
Jono and Dano said they were delighted to be coming back on air together after all these years.
When asked why the pair are reuniting, Ian ‘Dano’ Rogerson - with tongue planted firmly in cheek - said “if it’s good enough for The Eagles, The Police and Fleetwood Mac, then it’s good enough for us.”
The new show will feature a host of special guests and exciting promotions amidst an atmosphere of good, clean family fun.
‘The Jono and Dano Show’ will replace The Jonathan Coleman Experience, currently on-air on the Classic Hits network. Jono’s good friend and current on-air partner, Julia Zemiro is taking a break from radio to focus on her acting career.
