Jimmy Barnes hands the Planet Rock® microphone to Chit Chat

Nationally syndicated radio program, Planet Rock, will undergo a change of hands this weekend as Aussie Rock Legend Jimmy Barnes steps down as host of the program. mcm entertainment is thrilled to announce Chit Chat - singer, songwriter and seasoned music presenter - as the new host of Planet Rock.

Jimmy Barnes joined the Planet Rock team late last year and brought with him a unique, insiders view on the history of music. During his 8-month stint behind the mic listeners have been treated to an eclectic mix of old and new tunes including some of Jimmy’s personal favourites. Now, with an upcoming national theatre tour that is practically sold out and planned touring commitments overseas, the time has come for Jimmy to pass on the reins.

While there are some big shoes to fill, Chit Chat is a perfect fit for Planet Rock and is set to bring new passion and a fresh new perspective to the program.

Chit Chat spent 7 years playing with, writing for and managing the Australian alternative rock band Machine Gun Fellatio until band members went their separate ways in 2004. Since then he has lent his songwriting skills to some very successful collaborations with The Whitlams, Pre-Shrunk, Tex Perkins and Jackie Orszaczky. He co-wrote the Whiltlams’ ARIA-winning No Aphrodisiac and earned an Australian Film Institute nomination for the soundtrack to the comedy Getting’ Square. More recently Chit Chat has had a regular TV hosting gig on Max TV’s ‘The Know’, co-presenting with Jimmy Barnes among others.

Of his new role, Chit Chat says: “I’m honoured, nervous, flattered, terrified and horny. Jimmy’s a great man and these are big shoes to fill. I can’t wait to start.”

Planet Rock is a 3 hour radio program broadcast on Sunday evenings in 58 markets around the country. Rich in original content from mcm’s extensive music and interview library, Planet Rock embraces the stories, songs and personalities that have driven music throughout the 80's, 90's and 00's.
